In photos: Bristol Zoo’s last day after 186 years
The gates to Bristol Zoo closed to visitors for the last time after 186 years on Saturday.
In its last week of opening, more than 29,000 people visited the historic Clifton site – the same number of visitors the attraction would usually see in a typical month.
Plans for the site include building more than 200 new homes. Features set to be preserved include the aquarium building and Monkey Temple.
is needed now More than ever
Despite the zoo’s closure, life will still go on behind the gates while animals continue to be cared for ahead of their imminent departures to other zoos.
Bristol Zoo’s lowland gorillas and blue-eyed black lemurs will be moved to the new Bristol Zoo, which is currently Wild Place near Cribbs Causeway.
