Sherlock special filmed in Bristol on BBC One
A one-off special of hit BBC drama Sherlock filmed in Bristol’s Bottle Yard Studios is set to air for the first time on New Year’s Day.
The producers of the successful detective series, which has been filmed in various locations across the country since its conception in 2010, have chosen Bristol as the backdrop for the stand-alone programme, which sends Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes and his trusty Watson, played by Martin Freeman, back in time to Victorian England.
As well as the use of intricate sets at the Bottle Yard Studios the show was also filmed at various period locations around the city, including Arnos Vale cemetery, Queen Square and King Street.
Other primetime dramas filmed at the south west’s largest production studios include BBC One’s Poldark and Disney’s Galavant, as well as Sky’s hit comedy Trollied.
Sherlock: The Abominable Bride airs at 9pm on Friday, January 1 on BBC One.
