Are you driven by making a direct impact on the local economy, excited by the challenge of working with internationally renowned brands and ambitious to help grow the business navigating a multi-stakeholder environment? Let this be your next challenge.

For the first time University of Bristol is hiring a dedicated Marketing Manager to develop its Engine Shed and SETsquared Bristol brands and establish a consistent communication strategy that ensures a balance between its commercial operations and inclusive economic development work.

Better Business
Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

You will be a team player who is entirely comfortable working in a small, growing, dynamic business. Although you will be employed by The University of Bristol, you will work within The Science Research Foundation (SRF), the 18-person autonomous subsidiary of the University, at Temple Meads, that operates Engine Shed and SETsquared Bristol. You will be involved in all aspects of development of those two business units.

SRF has grown revenue 5-fold in the last 5 years and expects to deliver further significant growth with the expansion into new sites as well as significant growth in SETsquared’s capacity and capability.

SRF’s audiences are broad: from tenants and event users, to visiting international trade missions and primary school children; from technology startups and scaleups to government, from potential room-hirers to angel investors, from regular business users of our Members’ Lounge to infrequent co-workers. SRF’s reputation needs to be developed across all these groups.

Marketing and communications are essential to SRF’s success and play a pivotal role in its continued expansion. There is complexity in terms of stakeholders, audiences and customers, but also with messaging, engagement, and the important differences between the two brands. The successful candidate will own and lead on all marketing activity, working with the team and external support. The role will be fast paced, varied and above all stimulating – there really isn’t a position quite like it.

You will have the freedom to shape this role and to prioritise which areas to focus on over time.

Nothing has stayed still for very long in our business to date, yet the SRF is at the cusp of perhaps its most significant growth – its ‘scaling up’ phase. Have you got the enthusiasm, wit and expertise to ensure these brands remain at the top?

The Science Research Foundation serves a very diverse audience and needs fresh perspectives, so applicants from all backgrounds are positively welcomed.

This is a part-time role working 17.5 hours per week.

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Tuesday 23rd April 2019.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place the week commencing 13th May 2019.

University of Bristol appreciates and values difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
