B!tch, Please! has been hosted at Christmas Steps for the past seven years, with a capacity of around 500. Last year, the collective worked with the council to close off the wider street area, allowing the capacity to be raised to 1,000 revellers.

This year, the multi-venue nature of the event will allow for 2,000 attendees. Working across multiple venues will allow further local queer collectives to be showcased.

Providing a platform to underrepresented communities

Liam Norris, who created B!tch, Please!, told Bristol24/7, “We’re able to bring a live element to the show now, with the help of Bristol Beacon. This is allowing us to extend our platform beyond DJs and electronic music.”

Liam explained B!tch, Please! tends to work with communities that don’t have huge representation in terms of electronic dance music and performance.

B!tch Pride aims to increase the visibility of Bristol’s electronic dance community

B!tch, Please! was created as a result of general discourse within the community surrounding under-representation of the city’s dance music community at the official Bristol Pride event held on The Downs.

Liam said: “We want to show what Bristol and the surrounding area has to offer, a space for alternative communities. We’ll have live painting and local artists will be featured through our visuals displayed at Bristol Beacon. Two years ago we had a wall where people wrote what Pride meant to them.”

B!tch Pride wants audiences to have fun whilst discovering Bristol’s creative and alternative queer communities

“We’re involving local drag collectives like The House of Boussé. The Welsh ballroom and Bristol ballroom communities will be performing too,” continued Liam.

B!tch Pride will aim to showcase ballroom alongside workshops and teaching categories. Liam said this will help make the event more interactive whilst also providing the opportunity to educate audiences.

Performers include Shade Cartel, Bristol Ballroom Community and the Welsh Ballroom Community

The aim of the event is for audiences to have fun, but also for people to learn about Bristol’s LGBT+ community.

The collective aims to showcase the city’s arts and creative scene that may not be represented as widely at the official Bristol Pride parties.

“There was no one doing what we did when we started eight years ago. A few years later there’s so many new queer collectives and DJs coming through the city. It’s great to see how much progress has been made,” Liam told Bristol24/7.

“London has a lot of queer events. That’s expected from the capital. It’s great to see smaller cities like Bristol having multiple queer collectives, and increasing representation of the wider LGBT+ community.”
