Breaking News: Marvin Rees will be the new mayor of Bristol. It’s just a case of how much he has won by.

15.36

It was a little temperamental for the first count but fingers crossed for the declaration. We are told that Bristol City Council’s live feed will switch on just before the announcement:

15.33

We’ve been told that the result is expected within the next 10 mins

15.07

Support coming in for some of the candidates knocked out in the first round:

15.00

We’re trying to find out how long the second count will take. Apparently there are only three more wards to be counted.

We’ll let you know when we know. It’s the waiting that’s the hard part!

14.37

George Ferguson thinks it’s all over – and he could be right.

He told Bristol24/7 that once he saw the turnout he knew he would not win and he’s had a “couple of days to adjust to the news”.

14.35

Here’s the breakdown of the first preference vote:

14.25

The smile that says it all – and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is on his way to support Marvin

14.13

Does this say it all?

14.02

Second count gets under way.

14.01

13.58

Candidates were called into a room to hear the results before they were led to the stage and the full numbers were read out by returning officer Nicola Yates. Rees has come out way ahead with 56,729 votes. Ferguson trails in second with 32,375. Tory candidate Lucas has comfortably beaten Dyer from the Greens, with 19,617 to exactly 10,000. Mayor Festus Kudehinbu, a Nigeria-born taxi driver from St Paul’s standing as an independent, has come last.

13.55

13.54

13.48

Count goes to second count as no candidate wins 50 per cent of vote

13.45

Lets try again with the council’s live feed:

13.43

13.39

Candidates and agents have been called to hear provisional results in private

13.34

Parties are forming into groups around the stage where the declaration of first preference votes is about to be made.

If one candidate has more than 50 per cent, they are the new mayor of Bristol. If not, the top two enter a run-off, with second preference votes counted.

We are expecting the stage 1 declaration soon

13.16

1309

Massive cheer has just gone up from friends and supporters of Marvin

1256

Labour’s Marvin Rees has just arrived at the count

1241

George Ferguson has just arrived at the count. He seems to have accepted that he hasn’t won but he’s shaking the hands of officials and has told reporters that Marvin is a “good guy”.

1234

It looks like it will be a close run third and fourth place between Tony Dyer (Green) and Charles Lucas (Cons)

1230

Turnout for the Bristol Mayoral Election is 44.87% a huge increase from 27% in 2012

12.25

If there is no candidate with a clear majority of 50 per cent or more then the count will go to Stage 2 – a second ballot.

12.17

Labour expect the declaration of the first preference vote within the next half hour.

1212

Hundreds of volunteers began counting the votes at 1030 this morning.

Turnout was strong across the city and there are approximately 200,000 ballot papers to be counted.

1208

Confidence not running high in the Ferguson camp.
