By Bristol24/7  Monday Apr 13, 2020

An outbreak of Covid-19 at a nursing home near Bristol has left “a number” of residents dead.

One report says that 10 elderly people have passed away at Edgemont View Nursing Home in Oldland Common.

Dr Stephen Illingworth from Edgemont View said that staff had done “everything possible to keep this dreadful virus out” of the home on the High Street.

He said that the home had been having an “absolutely dreadful time”.

Keera Hooper, who has set up a fundraising page to buy a bench and plaque in memory of the residents, said: “We are a very small nursing home and the impact of these loses have effected all our girls that work here.

“We all love each and every resident like our own so as you can imagine we are all finding it very hard in here at the moment but we are still working everyday to give the best care and love to them all.”

Public Health England South West and South Gloucestershire Council said they are working together with local NHS colleagues to support staff and residents at Edgemont View.

In a statement, they said: “Sadly a number of residents have passed away. The home is currently closed to visitors and staff have been given health advice about the symptoms of coronavirus.

“Staff will be closely monitoring residents and looking for symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing. If any symptoms are identified they will be referred for a clinical assessment.

“Some staff and residents, who are deemed to have been close contacts of confirmed cases, are being tested.”
