11 men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

By Martin Booth  Sunday Jun 9, 2024

Eleven men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following two men being stabbed near a park.

The incident happened near Rawnsley Park between Easton and St Jude’s at around 4.40am on Sunday morning.

The two injured men were both taken to hospital to receive treatment for their injuries, which are no longer believed to be life-threatening but one of the men is still in a serious condition.

Police believe that all the people involved are known to each other, with the 11 men arrested all remaining in police custody.

A police cordon was put in place on Beaumont Terrace and around Rawnsley Park for much of Sunday; and on Sunday evening, enhanced stop and search powers were enacted by Avon & Somerset police which will last for at least 24 hours.

Superintendent Lisa Simpson said: “We do not underestimate the concerns of the local community following this recent incident of knife crime and serious violence in Bristol.

“It is because of this that we have made the decision to bring in the section 60 powers for our officers.

“A section 60 power authorises officers to stop and search an individual if they have suspicions that they may be carrying knives or other weapons which could be used in serious violence in the area.

“Alongside this, they will also have a section 60AA power which allows officers to ask people to remove face coverings if they have reason to believe it is being worn to conceal their identity.”
