A window into a housing solution
Scenes showing a window into a happy home life have appeared as part of a campaign to address Bristol’s housing crisis.
The pictures were staked into the ground at a number of sites open for development around Bristol by No Fixed Abode, a housing campaign group.
“Each window frame contains an image of a comfortable home – a stark contrast to the empty spaces which could be used to meet the demand for new dwellings Bristol desperately needs,” the group said.
is needed now More than ever
The scenes have appeared on council-owned sites which the campaign group say should be developed to provide more affordable housing.
Patches of land at Bonnington Walk in Lockleaze, Greystoke Avenue in Southmead, Filwood Broadway in Knowle West and the Newtown area in Old Market have all been targeted.
Spokesperson for the campaign Dom Lane, said: “The local and mayoral elections are only two weeks away. Over the last few months the mayoral candidates have been pitching for our votes. We’ve been pressing them on what they intend to do to solve the problem of homelessness in our city.
“The Council owns about 40 per cent of the land in Bristol. It has allocated a small part of this land for the construction of over 7,000 homes, but to date they’ve failed to deliver and it falls short of what’s needed. What delivery mechanism will the prospective mayors will put in place to change this?
“We all want to see an end to rough sleeping and sofa surfing. The views through these windows should be a reality for everyone in the Bristol.”
No Fixed Abode are holding a housing hustings debate with all the mayoral candidates this Friday.
