Andrew Brown named as Lib Dem candidate for Kingswood by-election
Bristol councillor Andrew Brown will be contesting the upcoming by-election in Kingswood for the Lib Dems.
Brown, who works in financial services, has been councillor for Hengrove & Whitchurch Park ward since 2021 and is currently deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat council group at City Hall.
The by-election in a constituency that will not exist at the next general election is taking place on February 15 following the resignation of previous MP, Chris Skidmore.
is needed now More than ever
Brown joins already announced candidates Damien Egan (Labour), Lorraine Francis (Green), Rupert Lowe (Reform) and Sam Bromiley (Conservative).
Brown, who stood as the Lib Dem candidate for Bristol South in 2019, said: “Local people I’ve spoken to are fed up of being taken for granted by this out of touch Conservative government, and this by-election is proof that even Conservative MPs are tired of it.
“The people of South Gloucestershire have been woefully let down for far too long by the Conservative Party.
“Our local NHS services have been neglected by Conservative ministers, hardworking families have been left to suffer the repercussions of the cost of living crisis with little help and our local waterways are being damaged.
“I am delighted that voters in Kingswood are finally being given the opportunity to send a message to Rishi Sunak and choose an MP that deeply cares about this community.”
