Announcing Soapworks as Bristol24/7’s new Better Business key partner

By Matt King  Thursday Apr 16, 2020

We’re delighted to announce Soapworks as our new Better Business key partner.

This partnership, along with the support of our existing members, will help us grow our social impact work and develop the Better Business initiative.

The Grade II-listed Soapworks building and former Gardiner Haskins warehouse, in the Old Market area of Bristol, is being brought back to life with a mix of high quality workspaces, homes, hotel, an exciting food and drink offer and new public open space for all to enjoy. The scheme will deliver a vibrant new district – one that celebrates the area’s past, present and future, with spaces to live, work and play.

The Soapworks will be a lively 18-hour destination, seven days a week, celebrating Bristol’s rich culture and food and drink scene. Food will be deeply embedded in the plans for the Soapworks as food is a connector that brings diverse communities together.

As one of the UK’s fastest growing cities in the UK, The Soapworks will match Bristol’s ambition for inclusive and sustainable growth, creating new jobs, affordable homes, supporting the living wage, minimising waste and championing environmental sustainability. The new development is expected to deliver more than £200 million in social and economic value for the city over the next 20 years.

Soapworks Project Director, Lucinda Mitchell, said: “Our plans for Soapworks will reinvigorate a site that has been at the heart of Bristol’s economy for generations. We are grateful to the hundreds of local residents and stakeholders who have helped shape the plans and in these extraordinary times, it’s more important than ever to build on these important relationships and provide assistance and advice where we can. We want to work with the community to help create as many opportunities for local people as possible, which is why Bristol 24/7’s Better Business Partnership is so important to us. It will be instrumental in positively impacting the lives of people in Bristol.”

The plans for the development have been submitted and the community will continue to be engaged with throughout the entire process.
