Area next to Cabot Circus transformed in new ‘car-free’ billboard
A billboard has been unveiled near Cabot Circus showing what the area could look like if Bristol prioritised cars less.
The billboard features a vision of Newfoundland Circus, where the M32 meets Cabot Circus as a car-free zone.
The futuristic plans include trams, pedestrianised streets, green spaces and segregated cycle lanes.
is needed now More than ever
Possible, the organisation behind the campaign, hopes the billboard will encourage local residents, the wider public, campaigners, and local councillors to see an alternative possibility for Bristol’s streets which doesn’t prioritise cars.
Rob Bryher, former Green Party councillor and Car Free Bristol campaigner, has been involved in the ongoing campaign as part of a wider exploration of how Bristol can reduce its transport emissions, with a focus on privately-owned cars.
There are three streets on Possible’s agenda as part of the campaign, including Chelsea Road in Easton.
In Autumn 2022, Possible talked to people who live close to Chelsea Road about the changes they wanted to see on the street to benefit local residents and the climate.
Suggestions included reducing traffic, implementing pedestrianisation and bringing in segregated cycling lanes.
The plans to transition the road to a car-free zone were unveiled to the public on Monday, January 23 at a public meeting.
