By Martin Booth  Saturday Jul 13, 2024

Armed police arrested a man in the early hours of Saturday morning as part of the investigation into human remains left in two suitcases on Clifton Suspension Bridge.

The 34-year-old man was arrested at Temple Meads in a joint operation between Avon & Somerset police and the Met Police.

He currently remains in custody and will be taken to London for questioning later on Saturday.

Police say that they are now “not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident”.

Colombian national Yostin Andres Mosquera, 24, has previously been named as the main suspect in the investigation.

Met Police deputy assistant commissioner, Andy Valentine, said: “This is a significant development in our investigation and I would like to thank the public for their support.

“We understand the concerns of local communities in both Bristol and London and officers will remain in the Clifton and Shepherd’s Bush areas over the coming days to reassure those affected by this tragic incident.

“Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak with them.”

In a police press conference on Friday held close to the bridge, acting Bristol commander Vicks Hayward-Melen revealed that the two dumped suitcases contained the remains of two men.

Hayward-Melen also said it was believed Mosquera was no longer in the Bristol area.
