Armed police descend on cannabis factory

By Martin Booth  Friday Mar 22, 2024

Armed officers and a police helicopter descended on a huge cannabis factory.

Eight people were arrested – four of who required hospital treatment for injuries not thought to be life-threatening – with several thousand suspected cannabis plants seized.

The joint operation between Avon & Somerset police and the National Police Air Service took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in a non-residential property on Hanham Road, a street that connects Kingswood with Hanham.

A police statement said: “A scene was in place until today (Friday 22 March) while officers investigated the suspected grow.

“Through their enquiries, several thousand suspected cannabis plants were seized in what is thought to be a grow costing a substantial amount.”

Seven of the eight people were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and have now been released on conditional bail, being ordered to stay out of the Bristol and the wider Avon & Somerset police area while enquiries continue.

The eighth person remains in custody on suspicion of cultivation of a class B drug.
