Ashley Down station could open before end of 2024
“Extensive testing” is currently underway at Ashley Down with Network Rail bosses hoping that the new station will be open by the end of 2024.
The “lengthy and complex” operation comes after most of the building work has been completed.
Bristol waited almost a century to welcome a new railway station, and now – after the opening of Portway Park & Ride on August 1 2023 – we could be getting two new stations in two consecutive years.
is needed now More than ever
Ashley Down is the first of three new stations that are planned to be built by the West of England Combined Authority as part of the MetroWest Phase 2 project.
Ashley Down, North Filton and Henbury will eventually be served by a new hourly train service between Temple Meads and Henbury.
Network Rail lead portfolio manager, Mark Radford, said: “Over the last few months, the team have been cracking on with a series of elements designed to build the station up to its final standard.”
These include installing lifts, the construction of fencing around the platforms, fire refuges, lighting and CCTV.
Radford added: “We are going through a very detailed testing element now so other than actually testing to make sure that that the assets actually work, they actually meet the standard to be able to have the station signed off as operational use in the coming months.”
