‘Bad Brexit deal poses significant risk to Bristol North West’
Bristol’s newest MP is calling on the Government to ensure Britain secures membership of the single market as Brexit negotiations begin.
Darren Jones argues that withdrawal from the EU without a sufficient trading relationship will result in a loss of businesses, investment and, ultimately, jobs for his constituents in Bristol North West, saying consequences could be disastrous.
After telling Bristol247 that Brexit will be his top priority, the newly elected MP is putting his money where his mouth is and says he is acting on a pro-European mandate on behalf of a constituency in which the majority of people voted to remain.
is needed now More than ever

Darren Jones swept to victory in Bristol North West on June 8
In a letter to the Brexit secretary David Davis, Jones said: “My constituency contains a significant number of businesses who rely on our trading relationship with the EU.
“If we leave the EU without a sufficient trading relationship, my constituency will lose businesses and investment and many, many people could lose their jobs. I am therefore asking that the Government reconsiders its negotiating strategy to stop the Prime Minister’s ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’ approach, which was firmly rejected by the British people on June 8.”

‘The loss of Airbus would be a disaster for Bristol North West’
He also urged the Government to enter the negotiations with a new, cooperative tone, citing the recent threat of Airbus boss Fabrice Bregier, who has threatened to close the company’s production plant in Filton if certain trade negotiations are not met – something Jones argues would be a disaster for his constituency.
Jones continued: “A negotiation which results in the UK not being a member of the single market poses significant risks to the prosperity of the people I now represent.”
