BBC Bristol journalists to go on 24-hour strike
BBC Bristol journalists are taking part in a 24-hour strike from 11am on Wednesday over threats to jobs at Radio Bristol and other cuts to the station.
Presenters based on Whiteladies Road are competing for their jobs with other staff from across the South West, while dedicated local shows are also proposed to be replaced with shared regional and national programming.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) called the stoppage after 83 per cent of members voted for a strike.
is needed now More than ever
Chair of the Bristol branch of the NUJ, James Garrett, said: “NUJ members are sad and angry, so soon after having their efforts praised by their bosses for providing a lifeline to isolated people and communities during the Covid crisis, that they have to compete with their colleagues for the handful of jobs which would remain.
“We have no issue with the BBC’s plans to increase digital content but this should not be done at the expense of output that connects diverse communities across England.”
