Better Bristol helping to tackle holiday hunger
Thanks to the support of our members we’re able to provide free marketing support to a Bristol-based charity every quarter. This quarter we are supporting FareShare South West with their #ActiveAte campaign as part of our Better Bristol focus on tackling child hunger in Bristol during the school holidays.
FareShare take in date, quality surplus food from food retailers and redistribute it to charities, schools and community groups across Bristol. This process helps to provide enough food for more than 765,000 meals for those most in need.
One in five young people are living in low income families in Bristol, significantly more than the national average. The campaign kicks off on 19 July with cafes across the city serving up a ‘green coloured’ item throughout the school holidays. A percentage of profits will be donated to FareShare South West.
is needed now More than ever
Local favourites already committed, include Yurt Lush, Tincan Coffee Company, Café Des Amis, , Box-E Bristol, Bristol Community Cafes CIC. A host of well-known local chefs are also rumoured to be playing their part in raising awareness of the issue.
The money raised will help deliver thousands of meals to children and young people taking part in more than 40 holiday projects. Better Bristol is also supporting the No Child Goes Hungry campaign led by Square Food Foundation, which launched at Bristol Food Connections festival last month
FareShare are also looking for volunteers to help them deliver the food and meet the demand for meals over the holidays. If you’re interested in getting involved visit www.faresharesouthwest.org.uk/volunteer or email volunteer@faresharesouthwest.org.uk
