‘Big plog’ planned around Bristol for World Cleanup Day

By Valentina Hernández Gómez  Friday Sep 16, 2022

World Cleanup Day is set to unite millions of volunteers, charities and organisations across the world. And Bristol will be no exception.

Presca, “the world’s first climate-positive sportswear” company, based on Unity Street, will partner with 2 Minute Foundation, a South West-based charity, in The Big Plog this Saturday.

Participants will start at Ashton Court Estate at 9am, plogging all the way into the city centre.

But, what is plogging exactly? It’s a term made from picking up litter and jogging.

The partnership hopes to raise funds to clean up local environments.

World CleanUp Day started back in 2008 in Estonia. Back then, 50.000 people worked together to clean up the country. The idea has only grown since then, organised by Let’s Do it World.

“It’s up to you how many miles or how (either running, walking, skating) – grab a litter picker or gloves and a bag,” say organisers.

Rob Webbon, CEO and head of sustainability at Presca, said: “By taking time to regularly plog, we’re giving back to the areas we enjoy and exercise in for the benefit of our planet – and it’s more fun than you’d expect.

“We encourage everyone to get involved in the regular Presca x Queen Square Run Club plogs (we provide equipment and gloves), do a #2MinuteLitterpick at one of the 2 Minute Foundation’s stations around the city, or do your own plog in the areas you run, walk and cycle in.”

If you’re interested in taking part, in helping the environment while cleaning up the city, you can sign up with friends, a club, or on your own here.

Plogging is not a ‘once a year’ activity. If you’d like to participate, Presca organises monthly plogs around the harbourside, in partnership with the Queen Square Run Club.
