Boat almost completely destroyed by fire

By Martin Booth  Friday Mar 10, 2023

Firefighters took to the water to help fight a fire that broke out on a boat.

Flames and smoke rose from the vessel moored at Bathurst Basin on Thursday evening, with fire crews from across Bristol rushing to the scene.

The cause of the fire – close to Casa and Paco Tapas restaurants within the former General Hospital – is thought to be accidental, with no injuries.

In a statement, Avon Fire & Rescue said: “We were called at 19:02 on Thursday 9 March to reports of a boat fire near Lower Guinea Street, Bristol.

“Crews from Temple, Bedminster, Kingswood and Southmead were mobilised to the scene. On arrival, crews found a boat well alight.

“Firefighters used two portable pumps, one 45mm jet and one high pressure hose reel to extinguish the blaze.

“Four firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety and four swift water operatives on the Services’ boat were on the water to provide additional firefighting support.

“Following fire investigation, the cause is thought to be accidental. We’re pleased to confirm no persons were injured during the fire.”
