A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: “We were called at about midday to reports of man’s body in the Floating Harbour under the bridge in Oxford Street.

“The body has been recovered from the water and although formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of missing man Deakon Wilkins have been advised.”

Deakon, 24, from Weston-super-Mare, had not been seen since leaving Motion nightclub in St Phillip’s in the early hours of Saturday, January 14.

Police carried out an intensive search operation of Bristol city centre both on land and in water.

His parents had offered some of their life savings for information leading to their son’s safe return.

CCTV footage showed a man believed to be Deakon walking along Cattle Market Road at 4.43am on January 14.
