Bristol Charity Advent Calendar 2023, day 16: Fareshare South West
Some 6.5 million tonnes of good food goes to waste every year in the UK, while 14 million people are going hungry.
Fareshare South West works to tackle food insecurity and prevent items from going to waste by acting as a bridge between suppliers and producers and organisations on the frontline who can redistribute food to those who need it most.
Over the last year, the charity has saved 1329 tonnes of food from going to waste, worked with more than 400 organisations and charities across the region to get food to people facing hunger or food insecurity and redistributed enough food for 3,160,000 meals.
is needed now More than ever
In this time, Fareshare South West has seen demand “skyrocket” and it needs support more than ever before.
“At FareShare South West, we join the dots between food producers and suppliers who want to reduce food waste, and over 400 frontline charities, schools and community hubs which get surplus food directly to local people from Gloucester to Tintagel,” explains Susie Day, Fareshare South West’s communications manager.
“Together, we turn an environmental problem into a social solution. We’re the region’s biggest food and environmental charity, and our work is only possible thanks to generous donors and volunteers who give up their time.”
