Bristol City Council to invest ?700,000 in film studio
Bristol’s biggest film studios will benefit from a £692,000 investment from Bristol City Council
The money for The Bottle Yard in Hengrove – which has hosted recent productions such as Poldark, Sherlock, Wolf Hall and Trollied – will pay for improvements to the site including new roofs, production offices and IT infrastructure.
is needed now More than ever
The site operated for more than 50 years as a winery and bottling plant and is now an established base for film and television production.
Estella Tincknell, deputy mayor of Bristol with responsibility for culture, said: “Bristol’s film and TV industry is a thriving and diverse economy that generates jobs and last year saw inward investment of £16.7 million.
“The Bottle Yard Studios has become a key cornerstone for this vital sector, working with Bristol Film office to attract high calibre companies from London and the US to make their productions right here in Bristol.
Bottle Yard site director Fiona Francombe added: “We warmly welcome this investment from Bristol City Council.
“It will enable essential site improvements that will help us maintain our reputation as a highly competitive studio space, capable of attracting the best in UK film and television production to Bristol.”
Unlike the majority of other studios around the UK, the Bottle Yard is not a private company but owned by the city council, with any revenue generated by hiring out the space invested back into site running costs and maintenance.
