Bristol named one of the world’s most ‘walkable’ cities
Our city has been named one of the world’s most walkable cities in a new study.
The research features 30 cities from across the world including Florence, which took the top spot, Madrid, Sydney and Amsterdam.
Bristol bagged the 20th place on the list, higher than cities like Dubai, New York City and Munich.

It was praised with its “maritime history” and “rich culture” adding to its “walkability”.
Research by investor website Insider Monkey analysed the distance between top tourist attractions, crime, safety and air quality indices, and looked at “walkability rankings and scores” from sources including Tourlane and WalkScore.
The study reveals that our city’s top-five attractions are within 4.2 miles of each other and have a walking time of 84 minutes.
It also lauds our air quality and safety level, achieving an air quality index score of 17 and safety index score of 58.31.
“Located in the southwest of the UK, Bristol is known for its maritime history and cultural diversity,” the research says.
“Bristol’s mix of historic architecture and modern developments add to the city’s beauty, making it great for walking.
“Bristol is also known for its unique street art, which further enhances the walking experience.
“Bristol has pedestrian-friendly zones and good air quality due to its many green spaces and eco-friendly initiatives.”
