By Freya Stanger  Thursday Aug 25, 2022

A flag raising ceremony has been held and Temple Meads station lit up to show Bristol’s support for Ukraine Independence Day.

August 24 marks 31 years since Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union.

Helen Holland, Bristol’s cabinet member for adult social care, welcomed around 100 Ukrainian refugees to a flag raising ceremony at City Hall to commemorate the day.

There has been an outpouring of support for Ukrainians across Bristol since the Russain invasion.

One of the many Bristol-based charities helping Ukraine is From Bristol With Love For Ukraine, who work hard to locate homes for Ukrainian refugees. There have also been multiple charity gig nights, across the city, to raise money for the country.
