Bristol South Swimming Pool finally set to reopen
A Grade II-listed building that is home to a much-loved community pool is finally due to reopen its doors after a prolonged closure.
Bristol South Swimming Pool was shut in November 2019 for a £200,000 programme of repairs and improvements, that included fixing leaking pipework and upgrades to the historic domed ceiling.
Covid and the need for additional work have meant the popular Dean Lane pool, which has served the community since 1931, has remained closed to the public ever since.
is needed now More than ever
Everyone Active, which manages the facility as part of a partnership with Bristol City Council, has now announced it is finally set to reopen on Monday, with the first swimming session scheduled to start at 7.30am.

Gary Teagle, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to reopen the doors to the fantastic Bristol South Swimming Pool and can’t wait to welcome all new and returning members and visitors back.
“We would like to thank all the teams involved in the repair works and reopening preparations as well as our members and the local community for their patience during the closure.
“We’re hoping the date of the reopening will also coincide with the proposed date restrictions will be lifted, giving us all the more reason to celebrate as a community.”
Everyone Active will be celebrating the reopening day by entering everyone who comes along for a swim on Monday into a prize draw to win an annual family membership for up to four people.
Mayor Marvin Rees has welcomed the news that the historic pool will be back open, saying: “It has been an important leisure facility in the community for many years and the extensive £200,000 renovation programme demonstrates the city’s commitment to ensuring our citizens have an upgraded pool to use and enjoy.
“Our thanks go to Everyone Active for the efforts they have put in to overcome the challenges of the pandemic and get this repair work enhancement work completed and a much-loved pool back up and running.
“Hopefully, it will continue to be enjoyed by as many people as possible and we welcome this addition to the leisure and exercise options available for local people as we emerge from the Covid-19 restrictions.’’
