Bristol Tyre Extinguishers deflate 55 SUV tyres overnight
The Bristol Tyre Extinguishers (BTX) took to the streets in the early hours of Wednesday morning for their eighth major extinguishing action.
Targeting the affluent areas of Clifton, the group deflated the tyres of 55 SUVs.
This brings the total number of SUVs ‘disarmed’ across Bristol to just over 500 since they first became active in March 2022.
is needed now More than ever
The group now have the crown for the most active tyre extinguishing group within the UK and are battling out with Paris for the top spot on the international scene.
The Tyre Extinguishers want to see SUVs banned altogether from urban areas with pollution levies to tax them out of existence.
SUVs are just one side of the problem though.
Alongside pollution levies, they also want to see significant investment in local transport infrastructure to stop the reliance on car ownership.
They’re demanding local authorities commit to providing free, comprehensive public transport and have vowed to continue with their actions until politicians make this a reality.
