Bristol named UK city with worst public transport link to airport
Bristol has been decried as having the worst connected airport in the UK.
Acclaimed travel expert Simon Calder made the claim, bemoaning the city’s transport links following a flight from Marseille.
Describing the time at which the flight touched down in Bristol, Calder said: “It turns out that this moment (12.20am) is about as inconvenient as it is possible to be for anyone depending on public transport.
is needed now More than ever
“Even if you were to sprint from plane to passport control and get through in seconds, you would still be scuppered.
“The airport bus for central Bristol leaves at 12.20am, and the departure to south Bristol and Bath is at 12.25am.”
Writing in the Independent, Calder described how passengers who had just arrived at Bristol Airport had to scramble around to find transportation that got them away from the chaos: “With an outstretched queue for the taxi service, they’re warned of a 20-minute wait” something I’m sure as anyone who has used the services would say that definitely leans on the optimistic side quite heavily.
Calder finally escapes by joining up with fellow passengers to order an Uber and scarper.
Bristol Airport has seen several challenges thrown at its staff and passengers, with long queues, congestion and recently falling victim to a global IT outage.
A “transformational” public transport interchange and multi-storey car park is currently being built as the airport prepares to increase passenger numbers from 10m to 12m per year.
The Airport Flyer bus service provides a direct transport link from Bristol city centre to the airport, with many thwarted plans over the years for a rail connection.
