Bristol24/7 is hiring a Marketing Executive

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 3, 2024

Are you interested in a career in marketing? Do you love creating great content, forging new relationships and seeing direct results from your work? If you join our team as our new marketing executive you’ll find yourself at the centre of all of Bristol24/7’s plans.

This is a full time role, with a salary of £23,000 + uncapped commission

About us

Independent journalism
is needed now More than ever
Keep our city's journalism independent.

Bristol24/7 is the biggest independent publication in the South West, with unrivalled coverage of local news, culture and entertainment. Our membership keeps our journalism independent and funds community projects that change lives and our events bring people together to celebrate the best of Bristol’s music, culture and food scene.

Our small team produces content that is already read by hundreds of thousands of people – an audience that’s growing all the time. We’re looking for someone to help us promote that content and the ways that people can get involved in our work.

We’re currently based in Future Leap on Gloucester Road, but in July we are upping sticks and moving into our very own office in the Tobacco Factory. Friday afternoon beers, anyone?

Our new Marketing Executive will be part of Team Audience, which is made up of three people: Meg, our Head of Audience; our Marketing Executive; and Emily, our Business Administration Apprentice.

About you

You are someone who is organised and has buckets of initiative; a self starter with a passion for generating leads that will create revenue to keep our local journalism thriving. You’re creative, happy to spend a day in the office or a day out and about with little notice, and you have at least a year of marketing experience under your belt.

You will mainly be responsible for actioning our marketing plan. This will involve creating great content for our website and socials, such as weekly videos about our member perks (which does involve a getting lot of freebies), finding new ways to promote and grow our business membership (LinkedIn legends, we’re looking at you), sending email campaigns, liaising with businesses and promoting our events!

You will need:

  • Good written skills and a keen eye for grammar and spelling
  • Attention to detail
  • To be highly organised and able to work to deadlines
  • A passion for local independent media
  • To enjoy working independently and as part of a team
  • To have initiative and be happy taking on new tasks when needed
  • To have used WordPress or have a desire to learn
  • To have an understanding of Excel
  • Experience filming and editing short videos
  • Experience liaising with businesses or clients over email
  • To be happy presenting your work to the team
  • Experience of using LinkedIn
  • Experience of using email, social media and SEO for marketing
  • Experience of using design software to create assets – we don’t mind which one!

It would be an additional bonus if you also have experience of:

  • B2B marketing
  • Google Analytics
  • Mailchimp
  • CRM systems
  • Pay per click advertising
  • Running events

If you work with us, you will gain:

  • A lot of chances to go to events, try new restaurants and enjoy lots of freebies!
  • Training and support in producing content
  • A knowledge of everything that is happening in Bristol
  • Experience of working independently and as part of a team
  • An option to do management training and start managing a team
  • A huge network of Bristol contacts in lots of different industries
  • A shiny new(ish) Macbook to work on
  • Further experience in marketing and a chance to take part in training courses

We’ll take you out for coffee for a weekly or fortnightly 1-2-1, and you’ll have a clear bonus structure for new leads that you bring in. We estimate that you could be earning up to £26,000 PA if you meet your targets, but this is uncapped and could go higher.

We also offer:

  • 25 days paid holiday
  • A free membership so you can access our exclusive perks
  • A fun and busy work environment and some good after-work nights out
  • A paid four-week sabbatical after four years of working with us
  • Bike2Work scheme
  • Flexible approach to office and home working

We believe our work will be stronger with greater diversity and welcome applications from those who bring balance to our team. Bristol24/7 welcomes the whole person to work, and we understand that each of us brings our experiences, our backgrounds and our own unique lens to what we do.

You may not have worked in marketing before or in an organisation like Bristol24/7. Perhaps you have worked in other creative industries, in sales, community organisations or in public relations.

If you are from a background that is not well represented in the media industry, we want to hear from you. This includes if you are:

  • A person who experiences racism and/or
  • A disabled person and/or
  • A person who identifies as having a working class background and/or
  • A person who was eligible for free school meals as a child

At the moment we are flexible in our approach to where we work. Most of our team are spending approximately two days a week in our office at Future Leap and three days a week from home.

Please send a cover letter (no more than one page) and your CV to jobs@bristol247.com with the subject line ‘Marketing Executive’. Don’t forget to include a bit about you and what makes you tick! The recruitment lead for this role is Meg Houghton-Gilmour, Head of Audience.

The deadline for submitting applications is June 25, with the aim to hold interviews in the week commencing July 1.

We look forward to hearing from you!
