Charity tackles homelessness through silent-disco ‘Sleep Out’
In the wake of the winter, a renowned charity returned with a silent disco and sleep out to raise funds for Bristol’s homeless.
1625 Independent People’s Sleep Out had the community giving up their beds for a single night – for the tenth year in a row – while enjoying music, food and dance.
The initiative is run annually to raise awareness about the situation of those forced to battle nights on the streets of Bristol.
is needed now More than ever
On November 7, dozens of people gathered outside the Lloyd’s Amphitheatre for talks, music, street food and a range of activities including a community choir and a silent disco.

Led by Windmill Hill-based community choir – Break Out Voices – the crowd enjoyed uplifting tunes through the night as they treated themselves to hummus bowls and flatbread wraps from Bowl and Bread, hot drinks from Bird and Blend Tea and many more delicacies from Bristol-based businesses.
Organised to recognise “the harsh experience of rough sleeping”, the event also raised funds for the charity to continue supporting the homeless in Bristol.

People joined in equipped with their sleeping bags and thermals, motivated to make a difference and send an inspiring message to others through the Old Market-based charity’s initiative.
Set up in 2009, the charity has aimed to help mostly young people around the South West by providing safe, stable accommodation as well as the crucial emotional support that is needed to ensure vulnerable young people can build healthy relationships.
