City studio brings beloved book characters to life
A new series co-created in Bristol will give children the chance to cherish their favourite book characters on screen.
Through My Friend Maisy, A Productions along with other production studios is set to push the “boundaries of classical preschool storytelling” and allow kids to explore, enjoy and learn through the beloved Maisy.
Based on the globally renowned Maisy books, written and illustrated by Lucy Cousins the series is being animated by the team at the Colston Street-based studio in partnership with London studio, Karrot, co-produced by BBC Studios Kids, Family Productions and Trustbridge Entertainment.

According to Katherine McQueen, joint managing director of A Productions, the show will be “closely reflecting” the books’ illustration styles.
She said: “We are absolutely delighted to be part of the team who will bring the much-loved Maisy character and friends to life through animation in this exciting new show.
“Whilst closely reflecting the illustrative style of Lucy Cousins’ wonderful books, the series will offer a unique opportunity for global TV audiences to join Maisy on her adventures in a new, captivating and imaginative way, where they will hear her talk, giggle and sing for the very first time.”
The 2D series will have Maisy donning several adventurous robes whether that includes fixing a car in her garage or flying a rocket to the moon – Maisy will be seen doing it all!
Tony Reed from BBC Studios Kids and Family Productions said: “It’s wonderful to be working with A Productions and Karrot Entertainment once again following such a successful collaboration on Love Monster.
“I have worked with A Productions on many series including the award-winning CBeebies series, JoJo & Gran Gran.
“Their attention to detail and passion for making the very best animated content for children makes them perfect for My Friend Maisy.”
A Productions has also collaborated on several noteworthy productions including JoJo and Gran Gran, Love Monster, Furry Friends Forever: Elmo gets a Puppy and The Monster at the End of This Story.
