Clare Moody elected as new police & crime commissioner
Clare Moody is the new police and crime commissioner within the area covered by Avon & Somerset Constabulary.
The former Labour MEP beat the incumbent Tory Mark Shelford into second place following an election with a turnout of only just over 23 per cent.
Moody pledges to be “visible” and “accountable” when she takes office.

Clifton councillor Katy Grant came in third for the Greens with Lib Dem Benet Allen in fourth.
Ten-thousand more people in Bristol voted for the winning Labour candidate than for the Green challenger in what could be an indicator that a Green surge in the city’s local elections might not be as strong as predicted when the ballots are counted on Friday.

“It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to serve the people of Avon and Somerset in this role,” Moody said on Friday morning.
“Now that I am sworn into office, I will be a visible and accountable PCC for all residents of Avon and Somerset.
“The people of Avon and Somerset have communicated their priorities to me.
“On my time on the doorstep, people expressed that they want to see a greater connection to their local neighbourhood police and for their service to address and reduce violent crime, particularly knife crime and MVAWG (male violence against women and girls), and to do all we can to prevent crime.”
