Clifton Cathedral regeneration on BBC Two

By Bristol24/7  Thursday Jul 14, 2016

Bristol’s most famous example of Brutalist architecture will feature in The Hairy Builder on BBC Two on Thursday.

The Grade II-listed Clifton Cathedral was built in the 1970s but has been plagued with leaks since it opened.

It is now undergoing a £1.9 million renovation project, which Dave Myers – best known as one half of the Hairy Bikers – visits to help remove and replace the worn-out lead on the roof.

He gets an architectural insight from one of the members of the original design team and finds out what happened to the nearby Pro-Cathedral it replaced.

This will be the fourth episode in The Hairy Builder series, in which Myers aims to unlock the historical secrets contained in some of Britain’s oldest, most prestigious and architecturally complex large buildings.

Other buildings visited include Doncaster Mansion House, Lambeth Palace and Manchester Cathedral.

Watch The Hairy Builder on BBC Two at 6.30pm on Thursday, July 14.
