Council leader reaffirms Green opposition to development on Yew Tree Farm

By Martin Booth  Thursday Aug 22, 2024

Bristol’s council leader has responded to criticism of him following an interview broadcast on Points West.

Tony Dyer claims that much of what he said was edited out of the interview on Wednesday evening, causing some of his words to be misinterpreted.

The Green Party councillor has since reiterated his opposition to South Bristol Crematorium being expanded onto land currently used by Yew Tree Farm.

Dyer said: “Yesterday in an interview with BBC Points West, I reaffirmed the Green Party’s opposition to development on SNCIs in response to a question on Yew Tree Farm.

“This was edited out of the broadcast interview, but it included a discussion of difficult decisions facing the Council due to the local government funding crisis.

“As a result it appeared I was indicating my support for plans to expand the South Bristol Crematorium onto Yew Tree Farm. This is categorically not the case.

“I clearly laid out that the Bristol Green Party remains committed to protecting Bristol’s green spaces and we will continue to do as much as possible to protect Yew Tree Farm.

“The interview also suggested that the Green Party make these decisions, which is also not the case. The committee model means that all parties are responsible for decision making.”
