Cycling initiative for over 55s launched
Cycling in Bristol can seem like a young person’s game, but Bristol-based charity LifeCycle are determined to get over 55s out and enjoying the experience of being on a bicycle again.
The charity is based at the Create Centre, which has easy access to cycle routes like the Pill Path that passes under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and the shared paths and mountain biking runs of Ashton Court.
LifeCycle aim to help more people in Bristol to unlock the benefits of cycling.
is needed now More than ever
The programme for the over 55s will be a peer-to-peer network of ‘cycle buddies’: confident cyclists, who will take novices out onto local cycle paths and quiet roads in Bedminster, Ashley and Hengrove.
Julie Hares project co-ordinator, said: “Many older people tell us they want to cycle, but don’t feel confident about going out alone. The aim of this project is to give older people the confidence to start or return to cycling around their local neighbourhood”.
The project runs from now until August 2017 and is free to participate in. Anyone who wants to join in can borrow a bike, and social bike rides are also planned.
The project is supported by Bristol Ageing Better, which aims to make Bristol a brilliant place to grow old.
