‘Danger to women’ jailed after assaulting girlfriends at gym

By Charlie Watts  Thursday Aug 24, 2023

A man has been jailed after assaulting two of his girlfriends at his gym in Bristol.

David Flowers, of Brislington Hill, plead guilty to two counts of causing actual bodily harm, one of false imprisonment and one of criminal damage.

The 40-year-old was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on August 17, receiving a jail term of five years and seven months.

The court heard how Flowers attacked two women on two occasions at the Armoury Gym, also known as Real Fitness Gym, in Brislington Hill, which he owns and runs.

On September 10 2021, Flowers was said to become angry at his then-girlfriend and, over a three-hour period, attacked a woman by punching her repeatedly.

For this incident, he was arrested and charged.

But while on bail for the first assault, Flowers assaulted his new partner on February 22 this year, also at his gym.

He was said to have took her phone and punched her, before smashing her phone with a baton.

In his sentencing, Judge Cullum described Flowers as a “danger to women”.

He was told to abide by two restraining orders, directing him to not contact either of his victims indefinitely and banning him from certain areas of Bristol for the next five years.

Alongside the court order, the judge granted a criminal behaviour order to last for 10 years, which means Flowers must inform police if he changes his address or lives with any woman.

Avon & Somerset Police DIO David Nicholls, who worked on the case and brought it before the court, said Flowers is “a violent individual with a history of violence against his partners”.

Nicholls said: “He used his place of work as a location for his attacks, withheld or damaged their property and left them fearing for their lives.

“He is a dangerous man and is now behind bars where he cannot cause any further harm.”
