Denyer could miss state opening of parliament after being stung by a bee

By Milan Perera  Wednesday Jul 17, 2024

A bee is the reason why one Bristol MP could miss Wednesday’s state opening of parliament.

Carla Denyer had to go to A&E after being stung, posting a photo on social media of one arm in a sling and a swollen right hand.

The newly elected Bristol Central MP still hopes to be in the House of Commons for the King’s Speech and perhaps also her maiden speech.

She said that she is “fine” but her body “is just being a bit overdramatic about a bee sting”.

“Well, this week isn’t going exactly to plan!” Denyer wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.

“I am meant to be in Parliament for the King’s Speech tomorrow, doing tv interviews, and then maybe my maiden speech.

“But I’m currently in A&E waiting for blood test results! Please don’t panic, I’m fine, my body is just being a bit overdramatic about a bee sting.

“But if you don’t spot me where you expected to see me in the House of Commons or on the news tomorrow, this is why! Hopefully I can still get in… we’ll see.

“NHS staff are being wonderful of course.”
