Documentary shines a light on the value and importance of Hamilton House
With the future of Hamilton House looking more uncertain than ever, those fighting to save it are appealing for wider support.
“What’s happening here, in this corner of Bristol, is indicative of a wider problem,” says Adblock Bristol’s Robbie Gillett, commenting on creeping commercialisation in a documentary that shines a light on just what the creative Stokes Croft building means to people.
Created by Black Bark Films, the video was made from donations to the Save Hamilton House campaign to capture the value and importance of the community hub.
is needed now More than ever
“Whilst we can say over and over, 200 people evicted, the loss of block C, until you see what this means to the people in the building, what the literal destruction of creative and colourful community space looks like and how this will affect the identity of Stokes Croft, it’s hard to communicate its impact,” said a representative of the campaign.
“We hope that by creating this documentary, we capture some of this and seed the idea of an alternative route from gentrification and open new paths towards communities owning and deciding on the future of the assets that are important to them.”

People packed into a meeting about the future of Hamilton House on Wednesday
Its release coincided with a public meeting held at Hamilton House following the announcement of the building’s owners that they are seeking new management and will not be offering a long term lease to Coexist, the social enterprise that has run it for the last decade.
The campaign is calling on support from people across Bristol and beyond.
