Dog bites off part of candidate’s finger in letterbox accident
Danica Priest is returning to Southmead Hospital on Saturday morning for an operation on her finger following a freak accident.
During canvassing in the Filwood ward of south Bristol on Good Friday, the Green Party candidate had the top part of one of her fingers bitten off by a dog.
The dog bit Priest after she had placed her hand inside a letterbox while delivering a leaflet.
is needed now More than ever
“Leafleting took a dark turn today unfortunately,” Priest tweeted on Friday evening.
“I have sadly lost half of my finger and am in the hospital waiting to see if they can attach it again.
“Luckily I have the amazing @EllieFreemanBS3 with me who stopped everything and drove to be with me.”
Doctors later told Priest that the missing part of her finger – the tip above the first joint – will not be able to be reattached.
As well as helpful advice to use a spatula or wooden spoon while delivering leaflets, Priest received support from well-wishers across the political spectrum.
Bristol’s local elections take place on May 2, with all wards across the city being contested as well as the election for the Avon & Somerset police & crime commissioner.
