Dozens of pro-Palestine protesters hold sit-in at Temple Meads Station
Dozens of people held a sit-in at Bristol Temple Meads Station on Tuesday evening, demanding world leaders call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Protesters held banners and flags with the words, “never again is now, end the siege, end the occupation,” before speeches were made.
There was an increased police presence at the station, first by the entrance to the station as protesters stood outside, then inside, as protesters moved inside and took their seats on the floor of the main entrance.
is needed now More than ever
Addressing the small crowd, one woman, who was Jewish, said she did not wish to see her Jewish history being weaponised by the Israeli government to justify the bombings.
A petition has also been launched in Bristol calling for the city’s councillors to demand a ceasefire, and for a minute’s silence to be held in Bristol’s Full Council meeting on Tuesday, November 14, to commemorate those killed.
Campaigners are also asking for City Hall to be lit up in Palestinian colours, to express sympathy for those who have lost their lives or been injured.
City Hall was lit up in the colours of the Israeli flag after more than 1,400 were people were killed by Hamas on October 7, with some leaders criticising the decision.
So far, none of Bristol’s four MPs have called for a ceasefire.
Sit-ins have taken place across the country in various stations, including Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Street Station in London, Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central stations.
