Encouraging people to return to Bristol’s high streets

By Charlie Watts  Sunday Apr 11, 2021

Murals in Broadmead and Cabot Circus and hearts in three city centre parks are part of a new campaign inviting people back to Bristol’s high streets now that coronavirus restrictions have eased.

The 365 hearts in College Green, Queen Square and Castle Park are part of the #lovebristol campaign, promoting the city’s recovery from the pandemic.

The hearts were created by a team of artists from street art festival Upfest, and are spaced two metres apart so people can sit in their households and groups of six.

The #lovebristol campaign is part of the Bristol Together initiative, which was also responsible for the drawing of hearts in Bristol’s parks last year.

The initiative is led by Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) alongside Visit Bristol, Business West and Broadmead BID, in partnership with the One City Economy Board and Bristol City Council.

Bristol City Centre BID operations director, Keith Rundle, says the hearts celebrate the relaxing of restrictions and reassure everyone that the city centre is safe to return to.

Rundle said: “We are excited about the opportunity that the recovery from lockdown gives us and have been working with many businesses and with the city council to ensure we emerge strongly as a city.

“It has been great to witness the anticipation of everyone who wishes to come back and enjoy the city centre whether shopping or socialising over a drink and some food.

“As people return, they will not only see old favourites and will also find many exciting new businesses and experiences across the city centre over the coming months.”
