Enterprising youngsters smash sales at St Nick’s Market
People perusing St Nick’s Market on Friday might have been lucky enough to spot a one-off stall.
Hosted by 12 aspiring entrepreneurs from IntoUniversity Bristol East, the stall was selling Bristol-themed shirts, tote bags, and mugs.
The day was part of a week-long workshop aimed at teaching young people how to be more confident and how to pitch and sell their products.
is needed now More than ever
IntoUniversity is a charity organisation that has been working with underrepresented students since 2002. There are three IntoUniversity learning centres in the region, located in Old Market, Withywood and Weston-Super-Mare.
IntoUniversity Bristol East has worked with more than 1,200 students this year. The goal is to encourage children and young people aged seven to 18 to pursue further education.
Speaking about the enterprise day, senior education worker Lois Plummer tells Bristol24/7: “Today’s workshop is one of our holiday programmes. It’s called academy of enterprise. So, the idea is to introduce the students to the enterprise business.
“They’ve been learning about marketing, branding, pitching, market research. The goal is to inspire children and make them aware of different pathways.”
Education worker Cris Arnaiz adds: “Our centre is also partnered with University of Bristol. They provide us with student volunteers that mentor some of our students every week for an hour, providing one-to-one support.
“On the last day of their workshop they do a little graduation ceremony and we take them to the university. It’s inspiring them to see that university is an option from a young age even for kids that are unrepresented.”
