Festival apologises after publicity stunt

By Bristol24/7  Friday Apr 7, 2017

Organisers of a Bristol music festival have apologised after a publicity stunt was slammed by environmental campaigners.

Love Saves The Day released 100 balloons from the Clifton Suspension Bridge on Thursday morning with two free weekend tickets to the festival able to be claimed by anyone who found a balloon.

But despite the red heart-shaped balloons being biodegradable, the festival was soon bombarded on social media by people criticising the giveaway.

In response, a festival statement on Friday apologised for the “poorly thought-out stunt”.

The statement said: “We didn’t intend to offend or upset, or to litter the fine city of Bristol – it was simply an attempt to provide a bit of lighthearted fun to our marketing efforts.

“We purposefully used biodegradable balloons, twine and paper in an effort to prevent any environmental damage. However, we now realise that this still wasn’t the wisest option.

“We have learnt from all the feedback today and won’t be repeating this mistake in the future.”

Love Saves The Day organisers added that they will also be increasing their environmental efforts for the festival through various schemes including Energy Revolution, Literati, the Love Saves Tomorrow initiative and other sustainable projects.
