By Matthew Ringshaw and Mia Vines Booth  Thursday Apr 13, 2023

A fire broke out at a popular restaurant in Stokes Croft at around midday on Thursday.

Emergency services arrived at Cafe Cuba shortly after to tackle a blaze, which appeared to come from inside the Cuban restaurant.

Two fire engines arrived to put out the fire while multiple police cars and officers closed part of the A38 road to traffic.

Bristol24/7 was informed that one individual was seen being treated by paramedics and was subsequently taken away in an ambulance.

A statement from Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Temple and Bedminster were called at 12:33 to reports of a fire at a restaurant in Stokes Croft, Bristol.

“On arrival, firefighters found a fire in the ground floor kitchen of the restaurant and used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

“A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke and four firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety.

“All persons were safely evacuated from the restaurant and the flats above.

“Crews remain at the scene to ensure there’s no further fire spread. Our police and ambulance colleagues are also in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental ignition.”
