By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Dec 5, 2023

Police tape remains around the fire ravaged building that is home to Forbidden Planet after a blaze broke out on Monday evening.

The road was closed through the night and into Tuesday morning as firefighters battled the flames inside the first floor of the Clifton Heights property on the Triangle.

Police and ambulance crews were also at the scene of the blaze that saw smoke pouring out of the first and second storey windows.

Fire crews were called to reports of a fire in the building at 7.14pm on Monday nights.

The fire service said: “The fire was affecting the first and second floor with smoke rising to the roof space. At its height, there were 17 fire engines and other vehicles at the scene.

“With 11 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, crews used multiple 45mm jets and hose reels with a turntable ladder to extinguish the fire. Crews also used thermal imaging cameras and gas monitors to check for hotspots. Also in use were positive pressure ventilation fans for smoke clearance and small tools for access.

“There were no casualties and the cause of the incident is unknown awaiting fire investigation.”
