Fire breaks out at We The Curious
Flames could be seen coming from the roof of We The Curious on Saturday afternoon as thick black smoke filled the air over Millennium Square.
Everyone inside the popular science centre was safely evacuated when the fire broke out and a speedy response by firefighters prevented more serious damage to the building.
Much of Millennium Square and nearby roads were cordoned off by police, with fire crews fighting the fire with water directed onto the roof from a turntable ladder on Anchor Road.
is needed now More than ever
Once the smoke had lessened, around half a dozen firefighters made onto the roof where more water was sprayed from hoses.
The upper floor of We The Curious is mostly used for events including a weekly church service, with the visitor attractions located on the ground and first floor levels. It is not yet known how much damager has been caused.
Shortly after 2.30pm, We The Curious posted an update across their social media channels about the fire.
“Our venue has been evacuated following a fire alarm, caused by a fire on our roof. Avon Fire and Rescue Service and the police are currently on site, all staff and visitors are accounted for.”
