Firefighters descend on shop after reports of smoke
A city centre shop was temporarily closed on Wednesday morning after fears a fire had broken out.
Multiple fire engines attended the incident at the Co-op on College Green at 8.10am, but said it was a false alarm.
By 9am, most firefighters began leaving the scene and safety tape that had been put up was being removed.

An Avon Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: “We were called at 08:10am to reports of smoke issuing from a building on College Green, Park Street, Bristol.
“On arrival, crews investigated the cause of the fire and found that the smoke was issuing from a faulty piece of equipment and the incident was deemed a false alarm.
“Many thanks for the patience of local people in the city centre while we investigated the cause of the smoke.”
At 9.20am, the shop remained closed to customers, but a worker told Bristol24/7 it was expected to reopen later that morning.
College Green was also temporarily closed westbound to traffic due to the incident, before reopening 30 minutes later.
