Football banning orders likely for City fans after fight
Bristol City say they are “appalled” by the violence outside Ashton Gate after their most recent home game.
Two Blackburn Rovers fans aged 20 and 49 were injured in the attack next to the Lansdown Stand as they were making their way to Parson Street station after the final whistle on Saturday.
Footage of the fight on Marina Dolman Way has been viewed more than 1.4m times on one X account alone since it was uploaded on Saturday evening.
is needed now More than ever
The video shows a group of around half a dozen young City fans attacking two Rovers supporters before other fans intervene.
Avon & Somerset Police say that alongside the criminal investigation, they will also be pursuing football banning orders for the perpetrators.
Sergeant Sam Bracey said: “This was completely unacceptable behaviour in which the two victims were punched and kicked by the offenders in an unprovoked attack, which only stopped when other members of the public intervened.
“We’re making enquiries at pace to identify those responsible and we’re working closely with Bristol City Football Club to review all available CCTV.
“In addition to a criminal investigation, we’ll also be pursuing football banning orders as there’s no place for this kind of indiscriminate violence in football.”
In a statement, a Bristol City spokesperson said: “We are appalled by this incident and will take action against those who engage in such violent behaviour.
“We have passed on all available video footage to Avon & Somerset Police and will work with them to identify and prosecute the attackers, and we will fully support any football-wide banning orders.
