Footpath next to Grosvenor Hotel finally reopens
A footpath next to the half-demolished Grosvenor Hotel has reopened after more than two years of being fenced off.
The section of Brunel Mile opposite Temple Meads had been closed since October 2022 when a fire broke out at the hotel.
While the portion of path was closed, pedestrians were forced to take a dangerous diversion along a narrow stretch of pavement on Redcliffe Way.
is needed now More than ever
Ed Plowden, chair of the transport and connectivity committee at Bristol City Council, shared the news of the path’s reopening on Twitter.
Plowden said: “Really great to see the Brunel Mile finally reopened past the old hotel at long last.
“Thanks to transport and building control officers @BristolCouncil for working behind the scenes in complicated circumstances to get this done.”

Despite the reopening of the section of path, Grosvenor Hotel still remains even more of an eyesore than is was when it was still intact.
There seems to be an impasse between the owner of the building – who has done the bare minimum of his legal obligation to make the site safe by knocking half of it down – and Bristol City Council who want to redevelop the land.
The council have plans to develop Temple Square, made up of the Grosvenor Hotel site and the old George & Railway Hotel and the land in between, “with a mix of employment space and ground floor uses which will complement (their) ambitions for the wider Temple Quarter regeneration programme”.
