Fresh Thornbury appeal over missing DJ Derek

By Louis Emanuel  Thursday Aug 20, 2015

Police are stepping up their search for DJ Derek in Thorbury, where they now believe he arrived on a bus more than a month ago.

Derek Serpell-Morris, 73, from Bristol, was last seen on CCTV leaving The Criterion pub on Ashley Road  at 00.13am on July 11.

But Avon and Somerset police say they are now confident he took the 10.32am, number 78 bus to Thornbury on the same date.

Officers estimate he would have arrived in Thornbury between 11.20am-12pm, which matches with a “credible” sighting of the DJ from a close friend of his at Thornbury bus station at approximately noon.

Detective chief inspector Matthew Iddon, who is leading the investigation, said: “The search for Derek continues unabated and we are continuing to fully investigate all lines of enquiry.

“We believe that Derek used his bus pass on the 10.32am number 78 bus which travels from Bristol to Thornbury.

“This would have put Derek arriving in the Thornbury area between 11.20am and 12noon.

“I am appealing directly for anyone who regularly uses the number 78 bus on a Saturday morning from Bristol to Thornbury to have a look at the photo of Derek and see if you recall seeing him.

“Equally, anyone who lives around any of the number 78 bus stops in Thornbury – do you recognise Derek and did you see him on Saturday July 11?

“We are continuing to liaise closely with Derek’s family and keep them fully updated.”
