Fundraiser to ensure ‘no woman is left unheard’
A mental health charity dedicated to women is fundraising to expand its volunteer network.
Founded in 1986, Womankind in St Paul’s has offered unwavering assistance and renewed hope to women through counselling, group therapy, telephone support and befriending.
From Thursday, every penny donated towards ‘Help Us to Help Her’ will be doubled by their partner charity Big Give, creating double the impact.

On the fundraising page, Womankind said: “From 10th – 17th October this year, donations made to our fundraising page will be matched by the Big Give to double the amount, meaning double the impact!
“With your help, we aim to increase the capacity of the telephone and web chat helpline by recruiting and training more volunteers, helping us to help her.
“We want to ensure that no call goes unanswered and no woman is left unheard.”
A Womankind helpline caller said she “couldn’t cope” without the charity, which she emphasised is “saving lives”.
Of the 5,816 calls received 22% disclosed financial or housing difficulties, 38% experienced anxiety and 46% were at the bearing end of sexual or domestic abuse.
All money raised from the campaign will be used towards supporting the helpline by promoting and recruiting volunteers, paying phone bills, keeping the webchat software running and training recruited volunteers.
One day in, the campaign has already raised close to £1000 but remains a long way from its set target of £10,000.
Talking about the need for a helpline, Womankind said: “The rising cost of living disproportionately affects women, making existing inequalities worse.
“We view this nationwide crisis alongside an epidemic of violence against women and girls – a significant threat to their mental health.
